Billington's

Responsible Trading

Over the years Billington’s has become well known for its unrefined cane sugars and for its commitment to quality, integrity and fair trading.

Back when the only sugars that were widely available were refined white and brown sugars, Billington’s decided to re-visit an old idea – traditional unrefined sugars, produced simply in sugar mills among the cane fields.

Since then, Billington’s has developed strong, trusted partnerships around the world, working hand in hand with local cane sugar producers to create top-quality natural sugars where the value is added at source.

The Billington’s name is now synonymous with the finest natural sugars. Because they are the very best, and as they are entirely produced where they are grown, the local industry gets a higher price for its products.

Billington’s believes that adding more value locally, in the country of origin – and not in a refinery elsewhere - can make a real difference to cane growers, sugar producers and their communities.

Fair Trade

Billington’s specialises in importing finished products ready for market and the same is true for its Fairtrade sugars. Billington's Fairtrade sugars come from Africa where the value is added ensuring unrefined sugars generate much better returns to the producing country. In addition, a Fairtrade premium is paid directly to Co-operatives, including the Kasinthusla Cane Growers Cooperative in Malawi and the Kaleya Cane Growers Co-operative in Zambia.

Organic
Billington’s led the way bringing a range of Organic Unrefined sugars to the UK. All Billington’s organic sugars are certified by the Soil Association. Organic production methods avoid the use of herbicides, pesticides and artificial fertilisers minimising the damage to the environment.
