Fairtrade Fortnight 6th-19th March 2006

7th Feb 2006

Take part in Fairtrade Fortnight 2006 and help to increase awareness of Fairtrade certified products.

The fortnight of events is being led by the Fairtrade Foundation, the UK member of the Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO), which unites 20 national initiatives across Europe, Japan, North America, Mexico and Australia/New Zealand.

To earn the FAIRTRADE Mark below, the producer organisation must:

  • pay a price to producers that covers the costs of sustainable production and living;

  • pay a 'premium' that producers can invest in development;

  • make partial advance payments when requested by producers;

  • sign contracts that allow for long-term planning and sustainable production practices.
  • Billington's Fairtrade sugars are sourced from Malawi, where we work directly with the Kasinthula Cane Grower's Co-operative, supporting two local projects. Firstly creating a supply of safe drinking water and secondly the building of a community health clinic. Future plans include building a secondary school.
